European thin client maker IGEL has rolled out updates to its popular UD3 and UD5 thin client ranges, which now feature dual core processors.
According to the company, the inclusion of the new processor technology will “turbocharge” the products,Monster Beats, increasing performance by up to 40 per cent on the UD5 and 20 per cent on the UD3.
IGEL claims while desktop PC sales shrink, the thin client market remains buoyant, citing IDC figures that suggest EMEA shipment volumes grew 9.2 per cent in 2012. It has also predicted growth of 6.2 per cent across the region this year.
Simone Richards, managing director of IGEL UK, told Cloud Pro: “This is the first time we have used dual core processors in our products and it is also the first time we have included Intel’s Sandy Bridge architecture too.
“This is a significant technology difference and really does make these two ranges cutting edge thin clients.”
As well as providing a performance boost, the introduction of dual core processors should also give the UD3 and UD5 ranges enhanced multimedia capabilities.
“Two years ago, it was the big enterprises that were looking for multimedia capabilities in a thin client. Last year it was a tick-box requirement for all people looking at thin clients. Now, it is a must have,Beats By Dr Dre,” Richards said.
Additionally, Richards said this supports and optimises cloud and virtualisation implementation.
“When you see how people are using some of the architectures out there, like Citrix with HDX, XenApp and VMWare,Beats by dre, for multimedia, it is absolutely key now that your capabilities are not just good but excellent and that is one of the reasons we have moved to this new type of architecture,Billiga Monster,” he said.
“There is a whole new expectation in the market. When users are at their desk, they don’t care where the media comes from, they just want it to be good quality,Billiga Beats By Dr Dre,” he added.
The UD5-740 LX and UD5-740 W7 with dual core, both of which also come with Windows Embedded 7, are available immediately.
The IGEL UD3-740 LX and IGEL UD3-740 W7 will be available from 27 May.
